Zakon o partnerski zvezi (ZPZ) izenačuje posledice sklenjene partnerske zveze z zakonsko zvezo in nesklenjene partnerske zveze z zunajzakonsko skupnostjo tudi na vseh drugih pravnih področjih, tj. zunaj okvira družinskega prava. Predstavljeno je nekaj primerov iz različnih področij zakonodaje, prek katerih je razvidno, kako ZPZ pripomore k (pravni) varnosti ter enakosti istospolnih partnerjev, njihovih družin in vseh drugih. Istospolni partnerji in njihovi otroci imajo zdaj zagotovljene enake možnosti do dostopa obveznega zdravstvenega zavarovanja in uveljavljanja nadomestila za nego ožjega družinskega člana. Uživajo boljše stanovanjsko varstvo pri dodeljevanju neprofitnih stanovanj in upravičenosti nadaljevanja najemne pogodbe. Na davčnem področju so lahko vključeni med vzdrževane družinske člane, kar jim omogoči uveljavljanje posebnih davčnih olajšav. Uvrščeni so med izjeme nekaterih kaznivih dejanj. Upoštevanje partnerske zveze v obligacijskem pravu izboljšuje varstvo upnikov, v sodnih postopkih pa zagotavlja doslednejše zasledovanje načela nepristranskosti, kar daje postopku večjo legitimnost in udeležencem postopka zagotavlja pravičnost.

The Civil Union Act equalises the legal consequences of registered civil unions and marriage, and of unregistered civil unions and common-law marriage in all other legal areas, i.e. outside of family law. The article presents a few examples from different areas of legislation that illustrate how the Act has contributed to (legal) certainty and equality of same-sex partners, their families, and everyone else. Same-sex partners and their children are now ensured equal access to compulsory health insurance, including allowance for the care of close family members. They are provided better protection in the field of housing as regards access to subsidised housing and the right to succeed to a tenancy agreement. In the field of tax law they can be included among dependent family members and are thus eligible for a special tax relief. They are included in exceptions determined with regard to certain criminal offences. The fact that civil unions are taken into account in the field of contract law improves the protection of creditors, and it guarantees a more consistent application of the principle of impartiality in judicial proceedings, thus reinforcing the legitimacy of proceedings and ensuring fair proceedings to all participants.
