Avtorica dr. Tanja Karakamiševa v članku »Človekove pravice v Republiki Makedoniji« obravnava varstvo pravic in svoboščin v veljavni ustavni ureditvi Makedonije. Posebej se posveča vprašanju demokratičnosti ureditve in prakse na tem področju. Avtorica v drugem delu svoje razprave govori o vzrokih in posledicah eskalacije mednacionalnih sporov in izbruha nasilja, ki so vodili do ustavnih sprememb glede varstva pravic narodnih skupnosti. V sklepnem delu avtorica analizira uveljavljanje mednarodnih standardov varstva pravic v Makedoniji, ki si prizadeva postati članica Nata in Evropske unije. Rights and freedoms are the main criteria for the position and the role of the individual and the citizen in society. They are part of the political history of the society because they are the best indicators of the character of the relations which exist between the state and the society, on the one hand, and the society and the individual on the other. The concept of human rights and freedoms in the Macedonian Constitution is based on the liberal democratic values. The key intention of the Constitution is expressed not only in the central position which is given to the provisions for the rights and the freedoms of individuals and citizens in the Constitution, but also in the fact that almost one third of all Constitutional articles is committed these rights and freedoms. The Macedonian Constitution connects the fundamental human rights and freedoms with the concept of the individual and citizen, but also with the collective rights of ethnical minorities with highly respect of the international standards and responsibilities taken under the human rights treaties. The Republic of Macedonia is a party to numerous international human rights conventions of the United Nations and of the Council of Europe, including the control mechanisms established for application of the provisions. A part of them are inherited by succession from the former Yugoslavian federation on the basis of Article 5 from the Constitutional Law for Implementation of the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia.
